Dope Soda (headliner)
Dope Soda are ready to offer up some gourmet reggae and ska music at Victoria’s 15th Anniversary Ska Festival. The groups is a Vancouver Island supergroup with members coming from groups such as Current Swell, Bananafish Dance Orchestra, and The Kiltlifters. Led by a three-piece horn section, the group bounces from funk, to jazz, to punk, to ska and back again like no other group can.
Brave New Waves
These Victoria boys are back in action and bringing their classic West-Coast reggae vibes to Vancouver Island. They’ve performed with acts such as Fishbone, The Black Seeds, and Mad Caddies. Fans of Sublime and Slightly Stoopid should be sure to check these boys out. With Ska Fest in full swing, Brave New Waves’ embody the perfect mix of ska, surf, and sun!
Leg up Program
Formed in 2009, The Leg Up Program is a collaborative effort of more than a dozen local musicians. Groups such as Rocky Mountain Rebel Music, Pocket Kings, Everybody Left, and Shoestring Bourbon are all represented in this diverse cast of characters. Each show is a unique experience unto itself, and who knows what they’ll bring when they hit the Ska Fest stage.
Since 2001, Whitey have been playing ska, funk, and reggae across Canada. They offer something for everyone and play an energetic live show that gets the entire audience moving and dancing along to the music. This Chilliwack group have an EP, a full-length album, DVD, and have shared the stage with groups like Ninjaspy, Miami Device, and Staylefish.
New Groovement (opening)
The New Groovement are bringing a funk attack the the Ska Fest stage like nothing that has come before! These musical geniuses blend together the best of RnB, soul, and hip-hop and let it shine through with an all night dance party.The group has quickly made a name for itself with massive shows and energetic parties. They’ve played with favourites like Dope Soda and The Ponderosas. Those looking to dance the night away should check this group out.
